March madness is upon us – everyone seems to be stretched to do more with less in the HR field. TEEOCA is the resource that keeps us sane, with outstanding programs on topics of interest to keep our feet grounded. Last month, our program was so powerful that many attendees were gathered around our speaker for a good while after the program asking questions. I am reminded again of what a blessing it is to have Employment Law Attorney’s as our guest speakers each month. The topics to complete our normal year at TEEOCA over the next three months are Slam Dunks, to play a little off the upcoming basketball playoffs. It will soon be baseball season and then we will call them Home Runs. Take a look, make your reservations and join us for great food, education and networking with other HR Professionals. We appreciate your attendance and participation.
If you have not joined TEEOCA, please consider joining and becoming active.
Our program this month is timely! Avoid having your holiday party turn into a case for sexual harassment, exposure to liabilities and something that will make the news media not reflect well on your company. Monica has given this program to her clients and others in the past few years, and has developed a program that will be very relevant for our attendees. It has been our intention to provide programs that are current and give you something to keep you abreast of how to be the professional in the Human Resource field. Consider bringing one of your staff members, that help plan the events for your company. This program applies to any activity your company sponsors or that would involve your employees.
Next month, we have Chris Thrutchley with another timely program. Our program chairman and his committee have done an excellent job of coming up with speakers and programs that benefit our members. If you have suggestions for topics as we move into 2010, please let us know.
We need your reservation no later than noon on Monday November 30th. We are looking forward to a great program. This program has been approved for HRCI credit.

Invitation from Tulsa Chapter President:

Travis Jones

TEEOCA has a new website completed, with the ability to register online for our monthly program lunches. I have been blown away with the caliber of our programs so far this year. Nicole Longwell did an outstanding program on social media, Kristen Brighmire reminded us that it is never too late to learn about ADA and that we are all probably somewhat disabled – look forward to more employee friendly judgments coming down the pike. Kathy Neal will help us understand the importance of protecting our companies from departing employees. In December we will have training on the issue of liability for company party activities. Christopher Thrutchley will kick off the new year with updates on FMLA and other legislation that affects the workplace. As promised our goal this year is “TEEOCA the Centerpiece for Employment Law”. We will be having a mock trial in the spring of 2010 and packed programs throughout the year. The website will have archives of past presentations for your use.

Another great feature is HRCI Certification credits for our program. Not only will there be current up to date information on employment law issues, but you will have the opportunity to ask questions, participate in the discussions, learn from the experts and keep up your certification programs.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you make a reservation, please let us know two days in advance if you cannot make the event. We are paying for the reservations that we turn in and we had 7 more than showed at the last meeting we had to pay for. We want to keep the organization afloat financially so that we can keep bringing quality programs and value to the members.

If you have not joined TEEOCA, please consider joining and becoming active. www.teeoca.org See new info each month along with links to sites for employment law issues. If you have a good site that you think the members would find value in knowing about, would you let me know and we will get it posted on the link section

Look forward to seeing another good crowd this month. The food was great!

Sincerely,

Travis Jones

President of TEEOCA 2009-2010
