<p>Our speaker, Phillip Wilson is President and General Counsel of Labor Relations Institute, is a national expert on labor relations and creating positive workplaces.</p>
<div>
<p>Wilson is a highly regarded lecturer, an adjunct professor at Northeastern State University, and the author of numerous booksand articles on labor relations, union corruption and creating a positive workplace, including: The Next 52 Weeks; Managing the Union Shop; and Model Contract Clauses.</p>
<p>He has been called on multiple occasions to testify before Congress on the subject of union financial reporting requirements.</p>
<p>Wilson graduated magna cum laude from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Prior to joining Labor Relations Institute, Wilson practiced law at a Chicago firm where he represented companies nationwide in all areas of labor and employment law. He has also served as director of human resources for a multimillion dollar gaming corporation.</p>
<p>Phillip&#8217;s discussion will focus on what to expect in 2012 regarding NLRB activities.</p>

<p>The year 2011 was peppered with high-profile labor stories: Wisconsin, Boeing, NLRB and DOL rulemaking, and the Occupy movement. Phillip Wilson will educate members on what promises to be an even more eventful 2012. Wilson will explain:</p>

<p>Please join us for TEEOCA&#8217;s upcoming Lunch and Learn presentation on Wednesday, January 11th from 11:30 &#8211; 1:00pm.</p>
<p>Our speaker, Monica Maple has over 13 years&#8217; experience in representing management in labor and employment matters.  She began her own law firm several years ago to better meet the needs of her clients.  In addition to labor and employment law, Monica focuses her practice on creditor&#8217;s rights, commercial real estate and business transactions, general civil litigation and Indian law.</p>
<p>Monica&#8217;s discussion will focus on issues to consider before terminating an employee, such as whether a disciplinary policy exists which governs the situation, whether the employee is a member of a protected class and whether performance and/or disciplinary issues have been documented.  She will also discuss the Older Workers&#8217; Benefit Protection Act and its application to terminations.</p>

<p><strong><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-315" style="margin-right: 5px;" title="Don Schooler" src="http://www.teeoca.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Don-Schooler-e1314889659542.jpg" alt="" width="250" height="272" />Don A. Schooler </strong>is the General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel, Oklahoma Department of Labor.</p>
<p>He attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1990.</p>
<p>He attended the College of Law at the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a Juris Doctorate degree in 1993.</p>
<p>He had a private practice in Lawton, OK, focused mainly on family law and bankruptcy, prior to taking employment as in-house counsel for Storm Manufacturing, Inc.  His legal services at Storm Manufacturing, Inc. focused primarily on contracts and collections.</p>
<p>In August of 1996, he took employment with the Oklahoma Department of Labor as Senior Assistant Counsel where his job duties included both the prosecution and education of Oklahoma employers in matters regarding accrued wages and benefits, violation of Oklahoma’s Child Labor laws and, failure to maintain Workers’ Compensation Insurance.  In January of 2006, he was named General Counsel, supervising three attorneys and two support staff, advising administration and the agency on legal matters, and defending agency appeals.</p>
<p>In April of 2007, he moved to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission as Assistant General Counsel, Public Utility Division where he was employed through 2011.  At the Corporation Commission he primarily worked with the telecommunications industry and electric, water, and natural gas utilities; he was counsel in several multi-billion dollar rates cases; drafted regulatory guidelines and statutory language; and, provided legal research and advice to the three Corporation Commissioners and their administrative staffs.</p>
<p>He returned to the Oklahoma Department of Labor in January of 2011 where he has resumed his previous responsibilities from 2007.  He is a frequent speaker on Oklahoma’s Title 40, “The Protection of Labor Act;” the Oklahoma Department of Labor’s wage claim, child labor, and workers’ compensation insurance enforcement procedures; and, various other employment matters.</p>
<p>He is married to his wife, Kim of 18 years and has two sons, Greer and Grayson.</p>

<p>Invitation from Tulsa Chapter President:</p>
<p>What a wonderful year we have had at TEEOCA.  Our final program of this year is one that many of you have been looking forward to for some time.  Jonathan Shook is a well respected plaintiff&#8217;s attorney that will bring our attendees a presentation that will hopefully keep you out of the courts. This may be one of those programs that you may want to bring some of your staff to give them a heads up on prevention.  Jonathan will be sharing things he has learned to help us. He truly wants to see employers doing it right and when they don&#8217;t, his firm knows they have a case to bring against an employer that will hold up in court.  What a gracious attitude Jonathan has to help us do the right thing.</p>
<p>Our summer break will be used to prepare the new board members to plan for another great year beginning in September 2011 through May 2012.   We will be having applications for membership available for the coming year and look forward to many of you joining us again for another power packed content year.  For the members only we will be having an extra program this summer with some of our speakers sharing some updates and a question and answer session.</p>
